Q. I would like to value estimates for a Longines Pocket Watch repeater I inherited from my stepdad. Watch, made in the early 1900s, gold-plated and in very good running condition. This is an extensive five centimeters (two inches). Thanks for your help.
A. Longines has a respected name in the hours since it was founded, in 1832, in Saint Imier, Switzerland. In the 19th century Longines (named after the location of plant) made great strides in mass production “empty” (cases) to good-quality watches.
Longines is also an innovator in this century. In 1927, it makes the Aviator watch (wrist), based on the specifications of the U.S. Aviator Charles Lindbergh after he completed the flight of the first ever trans-Atlantic. And in the 1970s, the company launched the first hour with screen LCD (liquid crystal).
Repeater watch was created around 1700 by Daniel Quare, clockmaker United Kingdom. These watches are so called because they have “button” is pressed to activate the mechanism that is heard on the clock. Other versions may also calculate quarter-hour or even minutes, all with the strike interrupts. Increasingly, the more valuable it is. So this needs to be determined; Minute Repeater is the most expensive.
Version even as the most basic, gold-plated repeater you need to have an initial value of $ 1,500.
